Life is a Series of Movies

Why do people love movies? Maybe it’s because they give us a front-row seat to the drama… and by drama, I mean watching someone else trip over their own life while we watch from the safety of our couch. It’s like binge-watching other people’s messy lives with a popcorn chaser.

Honestly, I’ve always thought if they made a film about my life, it’d need to come with a bedtime warning, because viewers would be snoozing within the first half-hour.

My husband and I are serious movie buffs, hopping from action antiheroes to mushy rom-coms as if we’re training for an Olympic event. For 90 glorious minutes, we lose ourselves in other folks’ lives. And then it’s home sweet home, where we become amateur critics, dissecting every plot twist.

Just like a director cutting scenes together, I often regale friends with gems from my family chronicles—some tales will make them laugh with disbelief, and others? Well, let’s just say they come with an emotional support blanket. I’m no Spielberg, but people seem to enjoy my “slice-of-life” episodes as much as I love theirs.

So, here’s a thought: if our lives are basically an ongoing series of films, does that make every awkward family dinner or chaotic road trip an award-winning plot? I mean, some stories are action-packed, others are comedies of errors, and there are even those moments that feel like a tearjerker, complete with dramatic music.

In this blog, I’ll share some of these stories. I don’t guarantee that each one will grab you like a blockbuster movie, but in the end, I’m just hoping someone walks away and thinks, “Wow! That was actually a popcorn-worthy flick!”
